A specimen of superior quality with saturated color and more robust crystals than usual, this is an important and display quality small cabinet piece. From the famous 79 Mine, which has produced what are considered the finest Aurichalcites found. This lovely, classic specimen features deep, green-hued turquoise 3-4 mm “needles” and "tuft"-like groups of Aurichalcite set on a contrasting limonitic matrix. A close look will also reveal micro-blades of clear, gemmy Hemimorphite scattered about, which creates an even more interesting combination piece. I love the intensity of the color in the Aurichalcite, and the contrasts in color and form with the matrix make for an excellent aesthetic. A beautiful example of this well-known and now hard-to-find material from this fantastic locality, which lasted from 1879 to 1992. This is from arguably the best pocket of species found here, by Wendell Wilson in the "Aurichalcite Room" in the early 1970s (see story published in IKONS by Wayne Thompson).
