Very good example for this seldom seen available locality, large scalenohedral crystals of calcite in a cluster with a second-generation of smaller rhombohedral crystal growth. This is in good condition with Slight chipping on the back of the cluster only. The Medford Quarry, located in Carroll County, Maryland, is an active industrial limestone quarry with a long history of supplying aggregate for regional construction and road building. Geologically, the quarry is situated within the Piedmont Province and is excavated primarily in the Ordovician-aged Wakefield Marble, which has undergone regional metamorphism and intense deformation. Hydrothermal activity and groundwater circulation through fractures and cavities within the marble have facilitated the deposition of secondary minerals. The site is widely celebrated by mineral collectors for producing exceptional specimens of crystallized calcite, often featuring complex crystal habits, sharp terminations, and attractive color variations.
