Pearly lustrous crystallized calcite across the top of matrix. In terrific condition. The Nistru Mine, located in Maramures County, Romania, is part of the broader Baia Mare metallogenetic district, where underground mining has been practiced since ancient times. Historically, intensive operations expanded through centuries of Austrian state control, modern corporate development in the twentieth century, and later state-directed production before underground extraction wound down. Geologically, the deposit is situated within the Neogene volcanic chain of the Eastern Carpathians, hosted primarily in Sarmatian pyroxene andesites and related subvolcanic intrusive bodies. Hydrothermal activity associated with these volcanic centers formed complex epithermal vein systems containing copper, gold, silver, lead, and zinc sulfides, alongside various accessory sulfosalts.
