Bright lustrous metallic sharp cubic crystals of galena to 2.0 cm in size across the front of a crystallized quartz matrix with sphalerite. In great condition, a choice combination piece.The Konski Dol mine, situated near Smolyan in the southern Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, is part of the extensive Madan ore field within the Rhodope metallogenic zone. Historically, large-scale industrial extraction developed significantly during the mid-twentieth century under state-directed programs to supply lead and zinc. Geologically, the deposit consists of hydrothermal quartz-sulfide veins and replacement bodies hosted within complex metamorphic schists and reactive carbonate rocks. Circulation of mineral-rich fluids through these structures deposited concentrated orebodies containing galena and sphalerite, making the broader district famous among collectors for producing well-crystallized specimens of sulfides and associated gangue minerals.
