Beautiful light pink crystallized calcite across the top of matrix with minor pyrite. Brightly fluorescent and in great condition. Classic material for the species from this locality.The Pachapaqui mining district, located in the Bolognesi Province of Ancash, Peru, is a large collection of underground mines and workings set high in the Andes Mountains at elevations ranging from 3,800 to 4,500 meters. Modern industrial scale extraction began in the mid-twentieth century, focusing on complex polymetallic veins, lodes, and replacement mantos. Geologically, the district is characterized by extensive hydrothermal mineralization associated with Andean magmatic activity, which emplaced rich concentrations of silver, lead, zinc, and copper ores into the local host rocks. Beyond its commercial production, the district is internationally recognized among mineral collectors for producing diverse, high-quality metallic and accessory mineral specimens, including sphalerite, galena, pyrite, chalcopyrite, rhodochrosite, and manganese-rich axinite.
