A cluster of tabular lustrous barite crystals. In good condition. Nice thumbnail collected in the late 1990s.The Meikle Mine, located in the Carlin Trend of Elko County, Nevada, is a premier underground gold mining operation with a history dating back to its discovery in the late twentieth century. Geologically, the deposit is situated within lower Paleozoic carbonate rocks that have been intensely altered through hydrothermal activity and tectonic faulting. Gold mineralization occurs primarily as microscopic particles within Carlin-type sediment-hosted deposits, where arsenic-rich pyrite and carbonaceous material replace the host limestone. The mine is also celebrated by mineral collectors and geologists for its stunning underground cavities that yield exceptional crystallized specimens of minerals such as barite and calcite.
