Sperrylite is the most well-known and highly-valued crystalline mineral species containing platinum; and this is an exceptional and pretty example composed of a rich cluster of crystals to 7mm in size. This is a fine, competition level thumbnail specimen from the long-held collection of Jean Smith (founder of the Rocksmiths dealership which I grew up buying from, as did so many collectors of my own generation in the 1980s-90s). Jean and her family (Eldon, Jaye and Bill) were among the first Western dealers to bring these platinum crystals to the mineral market out of Russia in the 1980s; and they got this directly in Russia at the time. She had kept it since the 1980s. It remains, today, even with more production, a very rare cluster of crystals of this quality.
