Elbaite tourmaline specimens from the Jonas Mine have been famous around the world ever since a major pocket of world-class cranberry red crystals was discovered in 1978. No significant pockets have been found at the Jonas Mine since that time, and while over two tons(!) of fine tourmaline crystals and cutting rough material was found, it quickly disappeared on the market, and good specimens have become very scarce on the market today. This is a beautiful small cabinet-size example featuring numerous vibrant red gemmy tourmaline crystals arranged aesthetically on lepidolite and cleavelandite matrix. The crystals have excellent color and luster, and the specimen is instantly recognizable as a classic ‘Jonas mine tourmaline.’ Good tourmaline specimens from this mine have become icons of the mineral world and a “must have” for any serious collection, and this is a rare matrix specimen in fine condition. Includes custom base.
