Shengus is one of the important pegmatite localities located along the exposed, upthrown blocks that are part of the massive "Himalaya suture zone" formed when the mountains of the Himalayas rose as India slammed into the bottom of Asia, 100 million or so years ago. It is widely known for its quality Aquamarines and Fluorapatites, among other things: but rarely, if ever, do you find these two species in such close association from here. The lovely blue Aqua is excellent on its own merits: being 6.4 cm tall, gemmy, glassy, with a superb termination. The Apatite is a soft pink color, 2 cm tall, and it has both yellow and orange fluorescence depending on wavelength used. Both are Shengus classics but what makes this small-cabinet piece more exceptional is that the Apatite is, mostly, included in one side of the Aqua - you can look right into the Aquamarine and see through, seeing the apatite floating within! We show a shot under fluorescent UV light, which makes the Apatite glow orange and it is then more starkly visible. Unusual interest and great aesthetics make this an exemplary specimen. We cannot recall seeing another such inclusion; and it is not a small spot of an inclusion that is hard to see. This is a large crystal within a large crystal! No repairs or restoration.
