For Quartz being the most common mineral on Earth, it is intriguing that the first good crystalline and euhedral Rose Quartz specimens were not discovered until relatively recently, as in around 100 years ago (in Maine!) rather than centuries or millennia. It is relatively rare in the world compared to other Quartz. Some of the very best early ones were found in Brazil in the 1960s and then only a few later finds, such as this, come close to the old styles and quality. This small-cabinet specimen features a quite significant, 6.8 cm, very light white-Rose Quartz crystal in the center of the cluster. One side is nicely contacted from intergrown crystals, and the presentation side is frosted and lustrous with literally a glacial look to the faces. Around this are a ringlet of richer and gemmier Rose Quartz crystals up to about 2.1 cm. This look of a medieval circlet crown is classic, and this is a superior and dramatic example. I'm not sure what it is about the specific growing conditions or the chemistry of Rose Quartz, but these special specimens often have the crystals growing in these wreaths, wrapping themselves around the core as we see here. Crystalline Rose Quartz remains uncommon, and quality, aesthetic specimens are rare, hard to find, and to be cherished. Better in person, this is an elegant and unique specimen. It came from mining circa 2024-25.
