An important azurite specimen from China, featuring a sharp azurite crystal to 3.8 cm across, isolated, and well-displayed on natural matrix. This is shockingly good for a Chinese azurite specimen with this refined quality, and from a notable ancient locality from which we see few sharp crystals of this habit. I have followed this mine and production since the early 2000s, and it really does not bring that much to market for a variety of reasons. The color is electric and vibrant, and does not need strong lighting. Small spots of malachite add contrast to the matrix. For those who look at this and worry it might be a mislabeled Laotian specimen, it is not: the matrix is characteristic of Changmenshan Mine; and the look of this is different, in person, from Laos material. Most of these specimens are also older, coming out of old stashes of the miners and sold in other provinces in recent times. From my own personal China collection (Rob), and I am pleased to release this specimen to a new home, as I do have duplication for azurite and am keeping larger specimens while parting with smaller pieces accumulated over more than 80 trips to China since 2005. Still, I have others, but not another quite like this very modern-styled and refined specimen.
