Tucson, Arizona, USASiderite from Neudorf in the Harz Mountains, Saxony-Anhalt is a 19th century German classic seen in historic collections right around the world. The very best specimens have cubo-octahedral Galena crystals perched upon, or associated with the Siderite, which is why this fine piece is not in the four figure price bracket. It is, nevertheless, still a very fine old-time European Siderite with a thin bed of Quartz crystals providing the matrix and a nice contrast in colour and form too. The rhombic Siderite crystals, which reach 1.7 cm on edge, present a great dark fudge colour and nice resinous lustre. There are signs of contact damage to several of the Siderite crystal edges, to the tips of one or two Quartz crystals and the cleaved Galena crystal, but this is still a fine German classic and a great size for display. Ex Martin Kershaw Collection, no. 356.
