Geochemically, Wulfenite - lead molybdate - is one of those minerals which one would expect to be much rarer than it really is, or at least it is surprising how large its crystals can attain. It is also one of those eye-catching species that often hook-in collectors by their beauty, both colour, and great symmetrical crystal form. Usually forming thin platy crystals - thick, tabular burnt-orange Wulfenite crystals are iconically Los Lamentos in Chihuahua, Mexico. This thumbnail-sized crystal aggregate from Los Lamentos has the classic colour and great resinous lustre. The main crystal reaches 1.3 cm on edge and has a good, balanced, classic Los Lamentos shape and colour zoning, from burnt-orange on one side and an almost chocolate-brown on the reverse. It does have a slight chip along its upper edge, but is a good example of this classic Wulfenite form and is grouped with two other main crystals.
