Cassiterite

Unknown Owner
Not only is this crystallized Cornish Cassiterite from an unusual locality, but that locality is right on the doorstep of St. Benet's Abbey, Lanivet, the residence of its former owner, and presumably its finder - Col. Sir William Serjeant (1857-1930). Renowned for his distinctive octagonal blue-rimmed handwritten labels (used for his British specimens) the one attached to the back of this specimen is in excellent condition. On killas, a metamorphosed sediment, the Cassiterite forms an extensive coverage of small, but well-formed, sharp glossy black crystals. Great pedigree, and in superb condition, this is a wonderful Cassiterite from the mines a stones throw from Serjeant's house. Ex Bruce Grant Collection.
