A rich, nearly solid mass of gemmy Calomel crystals, possibly with some minor Eglestonite, from this important and classic Texas locality for the species. Such specimens were found in the 1940s-1960s by a number of Texas-based field collectors and are now scarce, coming only from old collections. There are dozens of scintillating, tan-colored crystals on this miniature and they vary in size from 2 to 5 mm and many are complete. Tiny, less than 1 mm, orangish crystals of what we are calling Eglestonite are present locally. Calomel is a mercury chlorite and Eglestonite is a a mercury oxychloride. Calomel turns opaque in sunlight so fresh crystals like these that have been kept in the dark are uncommon.
