Manganite specimens from Ilfeld, Germany are true classics of mineral collecting and those of this particular style were found in the mid-1880s; and remain the world standard for the species over 140 years or so later! This is a handsome, thick plate of super lustrous, 1 to 2 cm crystals on a base of granular massive Manganite that are in upwardly divergent bundles of tightly grouped, parallel-growth individuals. They have literally the best possible luster! The sides appear heavily striated because of this subtle patterns of growth and the terminations just sparkle because of it, too. There is very minor bruising on the top and sides only - as is typical of this material where they were contacted as it was part of a much larger plate on the wall when collected in the late 1800s. These became instant worldwide classics, and among the most famous of all German finds. It sits perfectly for display. Ex. Robert Werner collection.
