Cobaltoan Calcite
Unknown Owner
There are very few places in the world where high quality crystallized specimens of Cobaltoan Calcite has been found. One of those is the Aghbar mine in the Bou Azer District, Morocco, but specimens are far from common and the supply has started to dwindle. This fully cabinet-sized display specimen from Nick Hawes' collection is really well crystallized. It forms a dome-like piece with a massive white Calcite core encrusted with very glossy, intense pink, nail-head Cobaltoan Calcite crystals. These crystals are uniformly around 5 to 6 mm in length and look really great. There is one small (1.5 x 0.5 cm) area of contact damage to one side of the central 'dome', but the vast majority of the crystals are pristine and extremely fine for this very rare and beautiful variety of Calcite.
