Veszelyite with ZINCOLIBETHENITE and Hemimorphite
Unknown Owner
Veszelyite is a rare zinc copper phosphate hydroxide hydrate mineral known in well-formed crystals from just a small number of localities worldwide. One of the most recent finds added to that list is the Palabanda quarries in the Republic of the Congo. This large miniature specimen from that discovery in 2019/2020, displays well the distinctive features seen in specimens from there. Rich blue-green, somewhat flattened monoclinic Veszelyite crystals, to 2.5 mm in length, are concentrated towards one side of the display surface with finely crystalline sea-green crusts of Zincolibethenite dominating the other end. Underneath these crystals the matrix is a pale yellow-orange iron-stained clay rock, shot through with veins of pale green-white Hemimorphite and more Zincolibethenite. Ex Nick Hawes collection.
