Mimetite with Hemimorphite and Willemite

Unknown Owner
This rather complex and unusual specimen comes from a very limited discovery made in M'Fouati District, Republic of Congo, in about 2014. Cabinet in size, and very dense, this somewhat stalactitic aggregate of barrel-shaped 'Campylite'-like Mimetite crystals could easily have been mistaken from Dry Gill mine, were it not for its unusual associated species including, Hemimorphite and Willemite. Both form sporadic coatings of small crystals: Hemimorphite as glassy colourless to pale blue bladed crystals up to a few mm in length, and Willemite as tiny colourless hexagonal prisms. The Mimetite is exceptionally rich, forming the basis of the whole specimen and displaying a transition from mottled grey internally to glossy mustard-yellow externally. This is really unusual material, simply not seen available, and certainly not in specimens of this size. Ex Nick Hawes collection.
