In the same way that the Mibladen Mining District in Morocco redefined the world of Vanadinite, the Bou Azzer Mining District did so for Erythrite. Compared to even the very finest pre-21st century localities, the Moroccan Erythrites are an entirely different level, but the days of wonder are gone and the best specimens have to be obtained from recycling of collections. This very rich cabinet specimen is from Nick Hawes' fine collection having been obtained in 2013. The Erythrite crystals, which reach 9 mm in length, are a beautiful deep pinkish purple with a sumptuous glossy lustre. The matt grey matrix - probably oxidized Skutterudite - is veined and impregnated with Erythrite with numerous open cavities lined with colourful perfectly formed monoclinic Erythrite crystals. The biggest cavity, extending some 6 x 5 cm, is exceptionally rich, even for Bou Azzer. This really is an extremely fine and important Erythrite, the like of which might never be produced again.
