Tucson, Arizona, USAThis rather fun cabinet-sized specimen from Zoila mine at Sierra Rica in Chihuahua, Mexico is rather like a Hedgehog in shape, only its spines are made from Quartz crystals. These cream coloured, slightly iron-stained Quartz crystals form the backdrop to a complex assemblage of secondary species notably, hundreds of 'spiky' clusters of Creedite microcrystals. Indeed, this is one of the richest and nicest display specimens of this rare calcium aluminium sulphate fluoride that I have seen from this recent material. Along with the Creedite, deep blue Azurite provides a contrast in colour and then there is the Prosopite. This very rare calcium aluminium fluoride mineral is usually rather dull looking, and certainly not what one would describe as colourful, but here it presents as small sky-blue coloured globular masses. This is amazing new material, but there are not many specimens.
