Tucson, Arizona, USAThis single, optically transparent, 9.5 cm long terminated prismatic Quartz crystal is somewhere on the boundary between pure colourless Rock Crystal and the faintest of Smoky Quartz. From the Grimsel Area in Switzerland this beautiful crystal is almost perfection in its quality as a classic Alpine Quartz. 'Almost' because it has an undamaged tip to its termination, but it has an internal flaw, or fracture, across the inside of its termination. Its prism sides, as one would expect for Alpine Quartz, are supremely glassy and show subtle, but classic stepping along its seemingly smooth glass-like surfaces. Its base is a rough fractured surface from where it was removed from matrix. Ex Martin Kershaw Collection, this crystal was probably acquired by him in the 1970s or 1980s.
