NATIVE Copper
Unknown Owner
The copper mine at Bou Nahas in Oumjrane mining area, Drâa-Tafilalet Region, Morocco opened in around 2014 and in the first few years excellent examples of crystallized Native Copper specimens reached the mineral market. This unusually shaped specimen - like a necklace or ancient torc - dates to 2015. Predominantly crystallized Native Copper, but with white inclusions of Quartz, the Native Copper crystals are extremely sharp elongated octahedra and reach 5 mm in length. These crystals are developed in dendritic and fan-like patterns but despite showing the classic metallic copper-orange colour are a little dull in their lustre. Nevertheless, this is a very fine example from this limited find and stands well in size (small cabinet) compared with most specimens that came out. Ex Nick Hawes collection.
