An outstanding and classic 1980s-90s-era twinned crystal of Calcite, on a shard of purple Fluorite, from the well-known Denton Mine in southern Illinois. During the 1980s and 1990s, Denton produced many of the best Calcites, as well as Fluorites, from Southern Illinois. As attractive as the photos are, they still cannot adequately portray just how good the luster and gemminess really are, as well as how well defined the twinning is. With the nearly 6 cm twinned Calcite sitting on the purple Fluorite the way it is, you have a fine sculptural arrangement, highly aesthetic. Mild orange fluorescence. A small indentation in the Calcite twin plane has some fibrous white material, or pocket clay, within. Ex. Ross Lillie Collection - we know this because we sold it to the Liebetraus in 2014 (although the number came off in cleaning). Ref: Mineralogical Record, 28:1, Rocks & Min.:63:211 & 64:18.
