This excellent plate of classic Vanadinite is from Mibladen, which historically has produced what are considered the finest Vanadinites found. This cabinet-sized plate is densely covered by crystals, but not so overgrown that you lose appreciation for the individuality of each crystal. Hexagonal and lustrous, the crystals range up to about 1.8 cm across. The coloration is actually very interesting. Brownish-red is the basic color, but looking closely you can see that many of the crystals show a definite gradation to lighter and gemmier going from one termination to the other. This is a broad occurrence among many of the crystals, and is a good example of changes brought about as the solution chemistry varies during growth. This feature adds even more to the quality and aesthetics, which are good enough that this piece was included in the Liebetraus' Desautels Award-winning case in 2012 (best in show for Tucson exhibition of that year). It is almost certainly from a huge discovery in 2008.
