Stan Esbenshade of Midwest Minerals in Tucson has had a contract to collect mineral specimens at the Chino Mine in New Mexico for several years. Most of what he finds is bulk material, but 3 times since he has been collecting there he has found pods of truly world-class copper crystals. The specimens pictured here are from the latest find from late in 2013. All the specimens from the find were removed from encasing rock to expose the copper crystals. Each of the three finds is quite distinctive. In this case the crystals form exquisite interlocking herring-bone growths ranging from quite fine, delicate crystals to occasional very coarse stout crystals, all in quite aesthetic groups of all sizes.
