Axinite-(Fe), formerly Ferroaxinite, is known from several localities in fine crystals, but pieces from Bourg-d’Oisans are outstanding and it is the Type Locality (dating back to the 1800s)! Good specimens of Axinite-(Fe), like this one, are true European classics and not readily found on the market. This stunning cabinet piece piece features at least a few dozen, super sharp, glassy, gemmy to translucent, golden brown, wedge-shaped crystals of Axinite-(Fe) measuring up to 3 cm on matrix. The razor-like crystals are incredibly lustrous and are randomly oriented on matrix so the big crystals just scintillate as you rotate it. A couple of the crystals are damaged and compromised, but don't detract too much unless you look up closely (although the price would be 4x, otherwise). Excellent quality for this old time material from the French Alps. A handwritten label (possibly from Paul Seel's or his son) notes that the piece came from Bryce Wright, dating it to the early to mid-1800s.
