Despite being world-famous for its remarkable diversity in phosphate species, with a total of 230 species (not all phosphates) and 34 first discovered there, mineral specimens from the pegmatites at Hagendorf are not seen very often, and when they are they tend to be micromount samples. This miniature specimen is somewhat of a rarity, with superb crystals of Eosphorite (or perhaps and intermediate between Eosphorite and Childrenite) covering most of the upper surface of a wedge-shaped piece of pegmatite. We are more familiar with Eosphorite from Brazil and Childrenite from England, but this lovely specimen shows that good-sized crystals have historically been found at Hagendorf too. Ex David Hardman Collection, no. 7858, this sample was simply labelled as from Hagendorf, but is most likely from the Hagendorf South Pegmatite. Upon it, flattened, bladed-like orange Eosphorite to 1.1 cm in length liberally carpet the surface with most of the crystals free from damage. A little purple Fluorite adds a nice association.
