Very nice for this classic locality. The Sounion mines in the Lavrion district of Greece are part of one of the oldest mining regions in the world, with activity dating back to ancient Greek times when silver and lead were extracted to support the economy of Athens. Mining continued through Roman and later periods and was revived in the 19th century with modern underground workings and processing. The deposits occur in carbonate rocks and include complex hydrothermal mineralization. This specimen was on public display at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, 2026.
