Bad Grund is a famous mining town on the west side of the Harz mountains in Lower Saxony, Germany. The local mines include Hilfe Gottes mine whose records go back to the 16th century, whilst mining continued there right through until the 1970s. This well crystallized dense aggregate of Galena crystals is very bright and fresh looking. The crystals form a bed with their terminations as complex intergrown stepped cubo-octahedral forms and the edges of the specimen showing a cross-section through the 2.5 cm wide Galena vein. On the back are a few small white Calcite/Dolomite crystals and sparse tiny golden microspheres of Pyrite sit upon the main surface of Galena crystals. Ex Hans Engelbrecht Collection, no. 4558, acquired by him in 1993.
