Graphite crystals are rare enough, but clusters of graphite crystals are incredibly rare! This very three-dimensional cluster originates from Baffin Island in the Northwest Territories of Canada. It is a very bright miniature-sized cluster composed of several, foliated, steel-gray crystals with a super greasy feel, as you would expect, however, I wouldn't advise handling it much. The lustrous, platy crystals range in size from 1.3 to 2 cm across and some are attached to an iron-stained, milky quartz matrix, and some trail off one end as loosely connected crystals. This is an exceptional graphite specimen from any locality due to the well developed crystals and the fact that it is an exceptional cluster. This is certainly a competitive miniature and is something nobody has, nor would expect to have, in a case of fancy crystal species on exhibit! Ex. Paul Stahl collection. We obtained this in a small lot collected by Don Doell Jr., perhaps around 2016-17, and Paul picked it from that find. One of the better examples we had at the time, these are very rare examples of such an interesting species.
