For an area so rich in Smithsonite as Kamariza in Greece, it is nice to a see a specimen so full of its own distinctive character. Not only is this piece from the famous Hilarion mine very unusual, but it is big and dramatic too. With glossy, resinous, beige coloured protrusions of Smithsonite branching out like fingers from this long specimen, it is the overprinting of white Calcite preferentially along one side as small clusters of rhombic crystals that adds its defining character. A very satisfying Greek Smithsonite. Ex Hettrich Collection.
