Classic older Mexican Smithsonite from the world-renowned El Refugio mine, Choix. This small cabinet-sized specimen presents a slightly paler, but still pink, version of the botryoidal Smithsonite renowned for its exceptional chatoyancy. With great botryoidal shape to it and no appreciable damage, this elongated specimen makes a really nice display from this long-since worked out deposit. Looking a little like melted wax, in some areas a faint orange hue is seen, imparted from underneath. Ex Martin Kershaw Collection who probably obtained it in the 1970s: the first batch of specimens came out in 1972 and the pink, slightly cobaltoan Smithsonite was found with the richest ore which was processed early on in the history of this mine.
