Calcite
The combination of colour and structural alignment really makes this very large miniature Calcite specimen from Tsumeb mine catch ones attention. The way the three rhombic crystals of Calcite join in a linear fashion is geometrically very pleasing, but beyond this, their stark, blood-red internal inclusions of iron oxides (Hematite) seemingly suspended in their transparent colourless Calcite host makes for a fascinating study for observation. Some of the iron oxides follow sharp, well-defined thin lines along the very edges of the crystals, whilst in other areas the Hematite is wispy and more free-form, suspended internally. At 1.8 cm on edge, the largest Calcite crystal is a good, visible size, and although there are a few slight scuffs to the edges the aesthetics of this piece are really fine indeed.
