Think 'Australia', and one mineral that would most certainly come to mind is gold, and the vast number of listed localities reflects the bounty that Australia is. This unusual piece with a rich, beautiful golden color shows off several habits of gold, with the gold being finely crystalline and densely intergrown. It is from a small locality called Gidgee, and we found it in the personal collection of longtime Aussie dealer and friend Rob Sielecki. So dense that it almost resembles a nugget and yet it is solidly crystalline, this specimen is a full 95 grams (3 troy ounces); and its luster and color give it a lovely aesthetic that complements its impressive size and crystal forms. The large crystal atop looks like a spinel twin, very elongated, that has been weathered perhaps over the long eons since this was formed (most such Aussie gold was formed, eroded out, and re-emplaced in new deposits long ago). It is complete all around and just a very different style and shape from most Aussie golds. From the well-known Australian collection of Robert Sielecki.
