Zoisite var. Tanzanite (bi-colored)
The famous gem region of the Merelani Hills has produced among the world's finest, if not the finest, zoisites and grossular garnets. This STUNNING, bi-colored zoisite is a fabulous example of something unusual from this region where so much tanzanite comes from, that all rather looks similar to one another otherwise. Primarily a water-clear yellow, this 27 gram crystal is completely gemmy, with smooth, glassy faces complementing the interior perfectly. Its innate beauty is enhanced even further by two sets of purple/blue phantoms that mirror the two main faces of the termination. The effect is subtle but also easily visible and highly interesting, as if the yellow crystal formed in the embrace of two blue hands off to either side. It is particularly lively and lovely when observed against a light background, the phantoms take on a more ethereal look when lit up along either the a or b axis. A great example for zoisite and the locality, this wonderful miniature is even better in person AND IT IS SO VERY DIFFERENT from most others. From a small find of 2025. 27 grams.
