Outstanding combination piece featuring aquamarine, the blue variety of beryl, intergrown with smoky quartz from Vietnam of all places. Being pegmatitic, the relationship of aqua with clear quartz and feldspars would be more the norm, but the association with (transparent!) smoky quartz is exceptional. But the uniqueness doesn't stop there. The aquamarines range from water clear to internally glimmering. The smallest aqua, at 3.6 cm, is glassy and light blue, while the larger aqua, at a very impressive 8.2 cm long and 1.2 cm thick, has the internal variations that give the gemmy interior its glimmer. Also, the color is a medium blue with a tinge of gray, a hot strong color associated with the great aquamarine seen from either Erongo or Vietnam. The smoky itself is also impressive. It is 13 cm long, with the upper half being gemmy, gray, and well-terminated. There are a few traces of feldspar, which add interest and contrast. Separately, both the aquas and smoky quartz impress, but together the association is aesthetic and way beyond the norm. It's a great cabinet-sized specimen from modern era finds in Vietnam in 2023-24. we should point out that, miraculously, it has no repairs...one of the few of this size we have seen on matrix, with no repairs from this remote mining region.
