Aragonite
At up to 11 cm in length these sharp, tapering Aragonite crystals from Podrečany in the Lučenec District, Banská Bystrica Region, Slovakia are absolutely stunning for this famous locality and the way they sculpturally splay out across each other makes for a museum-quality display specimen. A couple of the crystals are unfortunately missing their tips, but most of the crystals are in perfect condition and if supported upright this specimen will make a magnificent display. A cluster of naturally un-terminated crystals contain orange and brown limonitic inclusions from where they have grown around a rusty matrix. All of the Aragonite crystals show a fine glossy, to slightly resinous lustre. This occurrence - a former Magnesite deposit - is now flooded, with the best specimens having been collected during the 1970s and 1980s. The very best specimens, of which this one is included, are considered to be the finest examples of this habit of Aragonite found anywhere.
