Scalenohedral crystals of calcite with inclusions of native copper along one side of matrix with crystallized copper and epidote. In good condition.The Quincy Mine in Houghton County, Michigan, is one of the most famous copper mines on the Keweenaw Peninsula and was developed in 1846 to work native copper deposits in conglomerate and amygdaloidal basalt of the Portage Lake Lava Series. Operated by the Quincy Mining Company, it became known as "Old Reliable" for its long period of steady production through the 19th and early 20th centuries. The mine was developed with deep shafts and extensive underground workings that followed the copper bearing lodes. Quincy remained in operation until 1945 and is now preserved as a historic site, representing an important part of the history of copper mining in the United States.
