NATIVE Gold
The Breckenridge Mining District in Summit County, Colorado is famous for a very unusual and distinctive form of Native Gold as nest-like aggregates of wires. Many came from the Wire Patch mine at Farncomb Hill, but this habit of Native Gold appears to occur elsewhere in the wider Breckenridge area. This really rich miniature-sized specimen, which weighs in at 8 g, comes from Dry Gulch which is located on the south-eastern outskirts of Breckenridge and about 10 km from Farncomb Hill. There is a little cream-coloured matrix incorporated within the wires, but for such a rarity this is a very visible gold and a real collector's item in terms of American Native Gold.
