Aragonite
Horenec (Horschenz) in Bohemia, northern Czechia is a famous historic locality, dating back to the 19th century, where a unique form of crystallized Aragonite was found in veins. The extremely gemmy pale amber to wine-yellow coloured crystals present a distinctive orthorhombic shape with chisel-shaped terminations. Known to exceptionally reach 15 cm in length, the larger the crystals got, the worse their shape and clarity. Even within museums, high quality, perfectly formed crystals with excellent colour and transparency rarely exceed 4 or 5 cm in length. This magnificent 6 cm long crystal is certainly one of the best you are ever likely to see for sale, with an almost perfect elongated tabular, or bladed, orthorhombic form with a perfect wedge-shaped termination, stunning colour and remarkable transparency and gemminess, and with very little damage considering is undoubted age. Ex Horst Wolle Collection.
