This specimen was on public display at the 2026 Tucson Gem and Mineral show. The Kabwe Mine in Zambia, historically known as Broken Hill, is one of the most famous lead and zinc mining localities in Africa. Discovered in 1902, the deposit was extensively developed during the 20th century and became a major producer of lead, zinc, and vanadium before closing in 1994. The mine is especially well known among mineral collectors for its rich oxidized zones, which produced outstanding specimens of smithsonite.
