Copper ps. Cuprite
A sharp and full sized miniature specimen of copper ps. cuprite from 2011 finds at the Rubtsovsk Mine in Russia; and these were never again seen in such quality for a complete replacement of cuprite by the copper from this location even in later years. This mine is known for both its cuprite crystals and its copper crystals; but has rarely produced copper after cuprite pseudomorphs such as this one. This is a highly unusual pseudomorph where the earlier crystals of cuprite have been completely replaced by copper, almost completely preserving the original octahedral form of the cuprite and making for a beautiful specimen at the same time. This piece has an overall surface sparkle to it caused by a later generation of near microscopic copper crystals. It's very sparkly and lively compared to most copper specimens. Gorgeous and mesmerizing in detail, in person. Now, an old Russian classic.
