The Příbram District is one of the most famous mining regions in the whole of Czechia and indeed worldwide, having produced a staggering 356 different mineral species and is the first place (Type Locality) where 17 were described. Even within a single species many varieties are known from Příbram, and this is certainly so for Calcite. This rather wonderful Calcite from the Příbram District has a really lovely appearance. Softly pink in colour, its bed of sharp, pointed scalenohedral crystals (individually to 2 cm in length) are complexly stepped, giving then an almost pearlescent sheen, and with very slightly darker tips they look very fine indeed. For such sharp crystals there is also remarkably little damage. Ex Hans Engelbrecht Collection, no. 1394.
