Smithsonite (1608)

Unknown Owner
Colorless crystallized smithsonite mostly covering a stalactitic limonite matrix. This is in excellent condition and quite choice for the species from this Arizona locality. The specimen comes with several previous labels as well as an analysis as shown at the end of the video. This locality is famous for it's fine wulfenite specimens, however smithsonite from the Glove Mine can also be quite good and formed in the oxidized zone of the deposit. Mining at the Glove Mine began in the late 19th century and produced lead, zinc, and silver from replacement type ore bodies. As primary sulfide minerals weathered, secondary minerals such as smithsonite formed as botryoidal crusts and smooth masses.
