This is a truly fine specimen of barytocalcite from the important finds at this locality in 1971. This is an absolutely gorgeous, fanned cluster of barytocalcite, a rare barium-calcium carbonate that measure 4.5 cm across. The cluster consists of numerous, radiating, bladed crystals very reminiscent of a very good reticulated cerussite in form. The matte-luster blades also host tiny, subordinate, oriented outgrowths up to 1 mm on nearly every blade with the overall effect of this architectural piece resembling a very intricate snowflake in front-view. There are several other smaller clusters on the piece between 2 mm to 1.5 cm, mostly on the left side of the piece. The barytocalcite are hosted on a sliver of matrix and associated with an early generation of bladed calcite with crystals from 2 to 5 mm across. This fabulous piece was collected on the Second Sun Vein in the Admiralty Flats of the famous Nentsberry Haggs Mine by A. Walshaw, Michael Sutcliffe and Lindsay Greenbank. This small cabinet piece from Paul Stahl's collection is certainly one of the best, if not the best, in its size class.
