One of the most famous and sought-after of the Alpine minerals are the hematite rosettes affectionately nicknamed "Iron Roses." Covering much of the granite matrix, the rosettes here are composed of thin, bladed hematite crystals. Naturally, a few have dinged edges, but the overall quality is excellent. The star of this large miniature is a superbly developed and perfectly displayed rose 2.7 cm across. Previously in the Wolfgang Henkel and Burgener collections, this specimen is figured in a magazine called "Mineralien des Schweiz", on page 52 (sorry - we are still trying to find this old copy). A fine Alpine classic, and much better in person with a riveting form and great luster!
