Veszelyite
Unknown Owner
They say that a picture paints a thousand words. Well, judging by the detail seen in this photograph nothing I can write will really do it absolute justice, such is its mesmerizing crystal form. From the recent species-defining Veszelyite discovery at Sanguozhuang Pb-Zn mine in Dongchuan District, Kunming, Yunnan, China this thumbnail specimen really is a work of art. A small (1.4 x 0.7 cm) piece of matrix hosts an aggregate of clustered deep electric-blue bladed Veszelyite crystals. Each is individually small, but combined they become something very special indeed, presenting as fan-like sprays, but with each new crystal alligning offset slightly to produce 'twisted' bow-tie like sprays. A competition quality thumbnail if I ever saw one, and not to mention the rare species factor too.
