Classic antique German specimen with golden lustrous large crystals of chalcopyrite measuring to 2.0 cm in size across the front of matrix with siderite. Very minimal damage present on the lower edge of the piece, this still very nice. The specimen comes with an antique label as shown at the end of the video and would date to the very early 20th century, if not the 19th century. Horhausen in Rhineland Palatinate, Germany lies within the Siegerland and Westerwald mining regions, areas historically worked for iron, lead, and silver ores from medieval times into the 19th century. The district contains hydrothermal vein deposits hosted in Devonian sedimentary rocks, and numerous small underground mines extracted galena, siderite, and other metallic minerals. Mining activity supported local smelting and metalworking industries and contributed to the economic development of the region during the early industrial period. Although commercial mining has long since ended, Horhausen remains associated with the historic mining heritage of western Germany and with mineral specimens from its old workings.
