Calcite with Marcasite, Chalcopyrite
Unknown Owner
An outstanding example from this famous occurrence, this shows a double terminated scalenohedral crystal of calcite set up on a small amount of matrix with many smaller crystals. Part of the crystal had been coated with crystallized marcasite and chalcopyrite, then a second-generation of calcite growth started to form over this. The specimen is in super condition. Harris collected this himself in August, 1995, while Top Gem had the mining contract for this pocket. A true American classic. This specimen is figured in the supplement to The Mineralogical Record, July-August, 2015, page 179.
